Urticaria (Hives)

Itchy welts and hives triggered by allergies

Overview

Urticaria, commonly known as hives, is characterized by red, itchy welts that result from a skin reaction. The welts vary in size and appear and fade repeatedly as the reaction runs its course. Chronic urticaria occurs when welts persist for more than six weeks and recur frequently over months or years. The condition is often frustrating because it frequently resists treatment.

Symptoms

  • Batches of red or skin-colored welts (wheals)
  • Intense itching that may be severe
  • Welts that vary in size, change shape, and fade repeatedly
  • Swelling of lips, eyelids, and throat (angioedema)
  • Tendency to flare with heat, exercise, or stress
  • Episodes lasting hours to days, recurring over weeks

Causes

  • Allergic reactions (food, medications, insect stings)
  • Infections (viral, bacterial, parasitic)
  • Physical triggers (cold, heat, pressure, sun)
  • Stress and emotional triggers
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Unknown causes (chronic idiopathic urticaria)

Homeopathic Approach

Homeopathy excels in treating chronic urticaria by addressing the underlying allergic tendency and immune hypersensitivity. Treatment reduces the frequency, duration, and severity of episodes while working on the root cause. Remedies are selected based on trigger factors, pattern of eruptions, and individual constitution.

💬 A Note from Dr. Sharda

Chronic urticaria can be incredibly frustrating - I understand the impact it has on daily life. In my experience, homeopathic treatment can significantly reduce episode frequency within 2–3 months and often achieve long-term remission within 6–8 months.
